How To Follow Up With Your MLM Leads On Craigslist

How To Follow Up With Your MLM Leads On Craigslist

craigslist leadsI did a blog post not to long ago on How to Prevent Flagged and Ghosted Ads.  You may want to review that here first if you missed it.

Why Use This Site For Leads?

Here is something to keep in mind, entrepreneurs are everywhere. If you visit and click on Top Sites in United States Craigslist is featured in the top ten. That is huge and most people go there because they want to buy, join, get information or a problem solved.

If you don’t abuse this classified ad site your missing out because it is very simple to use. All you need to do to get started is create an account with an email,  password and phone number. This is so Craigslist can confirm you are a real person, not a bot. Now you can start posting ads and pretty quickly you will see some leads come in! This is good when you first start out because it’s free and super easy to use. You can practice communicating with people about your opportunity.

What Not To Do

Some people will just put ads online and hope someone will call them. Yes you will get calls and leads especially if you are consistent on Craigslist.   But this should not be the only thing you are doing. I would include this activity with active prospecting, for example talking to people with the intent to prospect them.

If you don’t want to talk to people, then network marketing is not for you. Besides if you are not communicating with people how do you expect to close the MLM leads you get from Craigslist?

Where should you post?

craigslist mlmThis question comes up a lot. It really depends on what you are promoting and your area.  You have to start posting, test and track your results.  Always ask people where they have seen your ad. People will be happy to tell you where they saw it, most will know exactly where.

Another big questions is “should I post in the jobs section?” It really is up to you. But I will tell you this, do not mislead people. If I was going to post in the job section I would only do sales and marketing, because in network marketing we do sales and marketing.  I would also make it clear in the ad that this is MLM. I would never post in customer service or administration, that would be misleading to people.

Follow Up

Follow up, follow up, follow up or FAIL!  We have all heard this before, with Craigslist you REALLY need too. Most people will not follow up with their leads.  Be the better person and follow up.  You have to understand something, people on this site are looking at tons of ads so you really need to stand out more than everyone else!

Here is one way you can do this. Just recently I called someone that was a lead who was very interested, he took a look at our company and we spoke a few times. When it came time to get him on the phone I wasn’t sure what happened? I left him a few messages and never called me back.

The average person will get all negative and let their ego kick in (Oh he’s not interested.  He never called me back.). I heard this statement when I first joined network marketing. In network marketing, you have to let your ego be egone. This always stuck with me.

Turns out he was in a really bad car accident. He was so excited and thankful that I called him back he told me that he was looking at other opportunities and no one had followed up with him except me.

Always Follow Up!

  1. Excellent… thanks for sharing these tips. This is really helpful. Yes, totally agree: If you don’t like to talk to people, this industry is definitely not for you.

  2. Great content Tom, the fortune will always be in the followup. I never understood why people spend so much time and energy generating leads but not want to followup with them on the phone.
