Does Being at The Top of Craigslist Matter?

top of craigslistShould you always keep your ad at the top of Craigslist? Does it really matter?

Today I am going to share with you some insight when you should keep your ad on top and when you shouldn’t keep your ad on top. You will learn why it might be better in some cases to keep it on the bottom.

Why Even Post an Ad on Craigslist?

Craigslist is one of the top visited websites in the world and every time I look at the website rankings on Alexa they always rank in the top 10 most visited websites in the United States. Craigslist is a great advertising tool for your business and to advertise their it cost you very little or nothing in most cases. After seeing that why wouldn’t you use Craigslist?

What is a Re-Post

When you post an active live ad on Craigslist you can re-post that ad every 48 hours. Another word for re-post is renew your ad. So when you post an ad you do not have to post it every day, you can renew the ad, this will save you a lot of time. Since Craigslist allows you to renew your ad every 48 hours, they restrict this feature only offering it for 7-45 days depending on your city you live in. Not only does it depend on your city, but sections are also different. For instance, the job section’s lifespan of an ad is 30 days and for the sales section has a lifespan of 7-45 days. You can see how the renewal and the lifespan of ad works more in detail here.

Should You Renew All Ads?

Because I mentioned all the traffic that flows to Craigslist and the renewal feature, you may be thinking, ok great I will just renew every ad I post. Yes it does make sense to keep on renewing your ad so it is at the top of Craigslist. If your in a large city and are posting ads in New York or California, these states have such a big populations that the ads go live and more and more Craigslist users are posting ads so your ad is getting lower and lower and in 48 hours. Your ad could be pages away by this time. It would make sense to renew your ad so it goes to the top page at this point. If you are posting your ads in a smaller city like Vermont you may not need to renew your ads every 48 hours because it will most likely be on the front page. This will save you lots of time.

How do you feel about the renewal feature?
